“We’re trying to sign Seabrook and we’ve been trying to sign him for a while. … It’s going along amicably. We haven’t gotten it done yet, but we’ve had different ideas back and forth.”
“He’s absolutely on this team,” Bowman said. “He’s a big part of our group. None of that has changed. Brent has been a big reason we’ve gotten to where we’re at. He’s going to continue to be a big part of this.”
So what is Bowman looking for before the trade deadline?
“We’re trying to find a defenseman that can be a penalty-killing type and eat up some minutes on the PK,” Bowman said. “Right now, we’re using our top guys a lot. In a perfect world, we can get a guy and come in do that.”
The top rumors kicking around on the Twitterverse include Mark Stuart of the Boston Bruins and Brent Sopel of the Atlanta Thrashers (and former Blackhawk). Who could we trade for either of those guys? Here’s your updated 2011 Chicago Blackhawks Trade Bait picture:
I’m guessing that Stalberg might be the next to go, perhaps packaged with a couple of IceHogs players. As much as I’d love to see Sopes come back to Chicago (and I really would — I love that caveman), I’m guessing that the Blackhawks are going to be pursuing Stuart based on cap hit alone (Stuart is $1.675 million against the cap, while Sopel is $2.5 million).
