Post-Game Review: Blackhawks @ Phoenix Coyotes

Blackhawks fall to the Phoenix Coyotes 3-2 in a shootout.

The main thought I really have on this game is close, but no cigar.

Yes, it was the second game of games on back to back nights, but really for most of the game it didn’t feel like there was a sense of urgency to get 2 points that a team on the outside looking in needed.

What was good about this game? The Blackhawks made a comeback and did so on the power play. They went 2 for 4 on the man advantage and scored to tie it up on a late power play to push the game to overtime and earn a point.

This game just simply wasn’t good enough. The Blackhawks are in a hole and if they want to be in the post-season they’re going to have to start playing like they want it night in and night out, no exceptions. No one is the Western Conference is going to do them any favors.

Captain Force of Nature watch: Toews had his 6 game point streak snapped & was a -1. (Full stats report here) He also had his shootout attempt saved. He was 9-19 (47%) from the faceoff dot.

Duncan Keith plus/minus rating watch: -1

Coach Q face color watch: Mostly maroon given the early efforts and settled into pink sherbet.
