Hey everyone! I’m Kim and I’m going to be the new IceHogs writer here at Runs On Duncan. But now to the important stuff: the hockey!
Friday, September 30 at Milwaukee – After dropping their preseason opener to the Chicago Wolves, the Hogs rolled into Milwaukee to take on the Admirals at the Kern Center. Some notables that were in the lineup include forwards Jimmy Hayes, David Toews, and Brandon Bollig and defensemen Shawn Lalonde and Brian Connelly. Alec Richards started in net but came out in the second period after stopping 12 of 15 shots. Carter Hutton came in for the rest of the game and stopped 11 of the 13 shots he faced. Rockford ended up losing 5-3 after they closed the gap in the third period. The goal scorers for Rockford were Bollig, Hayes, and Lalonde.
Saturday, October 1 vs. Peoria – The preseason finale was quite the show for all of the fans that came out to the BMO Harris Bank Center on Saturday. Not only was the game free, but the Hogs and Rivermen went into a 16 round shootout! The order of the shooters for Rockford was Brett McLean, Andrew Shaw, Chris DiDomenico, Brandon Segal, Byron Froese, Kyle Beach, Connelly, Brandon Svendsen, Lalonde, Rob Flick, Rob Klinkhammer, Bollig, Toews, Joe Lavin, Kevin Harvey, and Ben Youds. Shaw was the only Hogs skater to score in all 16 rounds. David Shields won it for Peoria; the final score was 3-2. Alec Richards was in net for the whole game and he played well throughout it all, making 21 saves. The Hogs’ two regulation goals came from Shaw and Segal, both on the power play, which went 2-5. The penalty kill did its job, killing off all 6 Rivermen power plays.
Former IceHogs forward Kyle Hagel made his return to Rockford as he skated for Peoria. Despite playing for a rival team, Hagel received a hearty round of applause from the Rockford faithful when he was announced as one of Peoria’s starters.
