Take a good whiff. Breathe it in deeply. You smell that?

That’s the smell of a new season upon us.

How was your off-season? Everyone healthy? Ready to go? Well, I hope so, because it’s going to be a fun ride ahead.

Tonight, the Blackhawks start the long road back to the playoffs and, hopefully, the Stanley Cup. Their first opponent? The team that had a chance to knock the Blackhawks out of the playoffs completely in game 82 of the regular season, but couldn’t muster enough firepower against the Minnesota Wild, of all teams.

If you guess the Stars might be a little bitter, you may be right.

The Blackhawks are looking to prove that they’ve gotten their championship swagger back through the addition of new players, while the Stars want to show that there is life in Dallas after Brad Richards. Which team is right? We’ll soon find out.

Previous Game

Chicago lost against Washington 4-1. (preseason)

Dallas won against St. Louis 4-0. (preseason)

Injury Report

CHI: Forwards Dave Bolland (upper body), Ben Smith (concussion), and Viktor Stalberg (knee) are out. Patrick Sharp (appendectomy) will make his debut with the team this season. (

DAL: Forwards Jamie Benn (groin), Adam Burish (groin), and Brenden Morrow (knee) are maybes for the Stars, while defenseman Nicklas Grossman (groin) will be out. (

Patrick Kane, CHI:  ‘‘Last year we had some guys that could fight, but we didn’t really have a physical team overall. This year it seems like we’re going to have guys who’ll stick up for any little thing that’ll happen, and that’s good to have as a team. It backs the other team off of doing certain things.’’ (Chicago Sun-Times)

Adam Burish, DAL:  “I could take Kane and Sharp with one groin. I’m going to rest up, embarrass them in their own building tomorrow.” (via @BMACST)
