After weeks of speculation, Viktor Stalberg finally makes the jump to Europe, signing with Frölunda of Elitserien, also known as the Swedish Elite League. Here’s what he had to say about it on Twitter:

Stalberg is the fourth Blackhawks player to take his talents overseas. Michael Frolik was the first to sign with a European team, going to Piráti Chomutov of the Czech ExtraligaMichal Rozsival then signed with HC Plzeň in the same league. Soon after, Bryan Bickell signed with Orli Znojmo of the Erst Bank Eishockey Liga, also known as the Austria Hockey League.

Let’s put the official article from Frölunda into the word blender known as Google Translate and see what it has to say:

Published: 2012-10-11 11:00

Frölunda HC and forward Viktor Stalberg, 26 has signed a short term contract for a month. Stalberg is ready for play and will be available for play from the next match, Modo away on Saturday, October 13.

-When the situation in our squad is as it is with heavy and uncertain damage to several of our key players, we have to temporarily strengthen our squad and we feel that Viktor right now is the best option, says Frölunda club director Anderz Larqvist.

Viktor Stalberg has roots in Lerum and has played both first-team hockey and junior hockey with Mölndal and Frölunda J20, but never with Frölunda A-team.

He chose the North American college hockey in the mid 2000’s and has since played in North America. He belongs to the Chicago Blackhawks organization, since the season 2010/2011. Prior Stalberg played with the Toronto Maple Leafs in a season. Altogether Stalberg played 196 games in the NHL (43 +38 = 81). At the last World Cup was Stalberg in the Tre Kronor squad and played all eight Swedish World Cup matches.

Kent Johansson, coaches Frölunda Indians:
-Given the uncertain injury situation we have right now in the squad at Magnus Kahnberg, Dick Axelsson and also Mathis Olimb, we have now no alternative, we must supplement the squad with another player.

-Viktor Stalberg is a power forward with roots in Lerum. He has a very briskly shot, sharp skating and utilizes its size in a very smart and effective manner.

He has trained in the Campus throughout the preseason, but not with us, and know many of the team so he will ease into the group.

-Two trainings remains understood before the next game, but I expect to play against Viktor Modo on Saturday.

# 25 Viktor Stalberg:
-I want nothing more than to start playing now. Have and tired of just practicing.

-Frölunda’s my team here at home, so this solution feels almost better than perfect.

-The team have got a little rough start to the season, so I really hope I can join in and turn this game around.

-Tröjnumret me play no role at all. 25 I have on the jersey in Chicago and it was free here in Frölunda, so here we go with it.

-Had understood anything started playing at home in Scandinavium, but it will be well hard. Modo gone Övik on Saturday night, which I never played, will be a challenge. Then will come HV71 to Scandinavium on Monday. It will be a perfect start.

Viktor Stalberg train with Frölunda A team today, about 11 o’clock in the Campus.

Hey, good job, Google Translate! I could almost completely understand this article.

As the article states, the contract is for only a month. Let’s hope the lockout is over before then.
