Tonight was supposed to be the Opening Night the Blackhawks finally won. They were going to play the Columbus Blue Jackets! Come on! Easiest opening night ever!
But no. The NHL had to ruin my dreams of seeing the Blackhawks start the season 1-0 with the lockout. Fine, you jerks. I’ll just look elsewhere to get my hockey fix.
The Rockford IceHogs and the Toledo Walleye both start their seasons tonight. The Walleye begin their season at home against the Kalamazoo Wings at 7:05pm ET. That might be a little far for you to catch some Walleye action, so you can listen in on Fox Sports Radio 1230 WCWA by clicking the link. You can also download the iHeartRadio app (iPhone | Android) to listen on your phone. To watch the game, you can buy yourself a 30-day or season pass on America ONE Sports.
The IceHogs will be closer to home when they start their season on the road against the Chicago Wolves at 7:00pm CT at Allstate Arena.
Of course, the best way to watch any hockey game is to catch it live. If you weren’t lucky enough to buy your ticket, however, you can still catch the game on TV. In the Rockford area, you can watch on 23 Weather Now (channel 23.2). In the Chicago area, you can catch the game on My50 Chicago. If you’re outside of those areas, you can still buy passes on AHL Live.
Of course, if you’re watching in Chicago, you can either choose to suffer through the biggest homer announcers outside of Pittsburgh — or you can listen to the IceHogs’ radio feed at WNTA 1330 by clicking the link. You can also download the TuneIn app (iPhone | Android) to listen on your phone.
Let’s go Walleye and let’s go Hogs!
