Blackhawks Open Season On The Road Against Kings

Well, this is annoying.

According to John Shannon of Sportsnet, the Blackhawks will open their season on January 19 at 2:00pm CT at the Staples Center, where they’ll take on the Los Angeles Kings.

Now, I’m not just miffed because the Blackhawks get to watch another team raise their Stanley Cup banner. I’m more annoyed at the fact that they’ll open their season in California, come back and play a few games — and then they’re right back on the road from January 30 to February 10 for the Disney On Ice road trip. The NHL scheduling monkeys strike again!

I guess I got an unnaturally long break from my usual attitude to Kings games (some variation on “NOOOOOOO”) because the lockout let me spent more than six months feeling warm and fuzzy about them from the playoffs onwards. I had such playoff fuzzies about the Kings that I was planning to watch their banner game anyway. Now it’s going to be straight back to “NOOOOOOOOOOOO!”

Same here. I mean, Kopitar is out, so that’ll help the Blackhawks, but QUICK IS STILL IN. If they come out of this game with a point, it’ll be a minor miracle.
