Did they even TRY with these?

Did they even TRY with these?

No. Seriously. Casey and I have come back to mock the Chicago Blackhawks and the rest of the NHL with Second Balcony Breakdown!

Listen to the podcast via FeedBurner (For those of you who don’t do iTunes and can’t get any of the other methods to work.)

Topics include:

  • What took us so long to return (SPOILER: it was my fault)
  • The Blackhawks. Duh.
  • The weird start to the NHL season
  • Depressing medical news around the league
  • THE MUMPS, THOUGH.
  • The Winter Classic and the new Road to the NHL Winter Classic show on Epix. Here’s the teaser video, if you haven’t seen it yet:

  • Potential salary cap problems
  • Potential NHL expansion… to Las Vegas?
  • Has the AHL figured out how to kill the shootout?
  • My trip to Tampa Bay and my upcoming trip to Columbus
  • And, perhaps most importantly, Casey’s “bro fridge” and the problems therein

Because of that last bit, this week’s question is:

How can you tell if jelly has gone bad? Because Casey needs some help with this, you guys.

Second Balcony Breakdown Is In Fine Preseason Form

Not unlike Brandon Bollig.

Not unlike Brandon Bollig.

Casey and I return for what turned out to be the loopiest Second Balcony Breakdown yet, thanks to certain things mentioned at the beginning of the podcast. Yeeeeah.

Topics include:

  • Stan Bowman‘s two-year extension, and why this is a good thing
  • Preseason rule/equipment changes
  • The Chicago Blackhawks held their training camp over the weekend and into Monday with the Training Camp Festival.
  • The first preseason game against the Detroit Red Wings. The Blackhawks won 2-0. Which is nice.
  • The Dan Cleary hot mess that ended with him re-signing with the Red Wings
  • The Jordan Nolan hit on Rostislav Klesla
  • Tim Thomas is in Florida, trying out for the Florida Panthers, which means two of Casey’s least favorite things have been combined. (For anyone who lives in Florida and is reading this now — I apologize in advance.)
  • Nathan Walker is a precious Australian gift to the NHL, and don’t let anyone tell you differently.
  • Evgeni Malkin is a smart cookie about his answer to “the gay question.”
  • Louis Leblanc‘s girlfriend yells at the Canadiens for cutting him. Did I mention his girlfriend is Aleksandra Wozniak?

  • What had occurred during the night (mostly Andrew Shaw‘s attempt to twerk)
  • Coach Joel Quenneville‘s three-year extension
  • Casey and I attempting to get drunk and mostly failing
  • Answering various questions from the public
  • Dealing with the crappy Wi-Fi in the hotel room, which made us lose answers
  • Attempting to wrangle the peanut gallery gathered in the room, which was like herding cats
  • The Jackson Family Model of ranking siblings in order of success

2013 Blackhawks Convention: The Good, The Bad, The Fugly

With the season finishing so late, it hardly felt like it was time for the annual Blackhawks Convention. But there we all were last weekend, throwing money at the Blackhawks organization like a 18-year-old at his first strip club. If you weren’t at the Hilton this past weekend, or were and were drunk not paying attention, I present you this recap, of sorts.

After a week off, Casey and I return with another edition of Second Balcony Breakdown… with 100% better sound quality!

Topics include:

  • The NHL Awards! Because I guess we should talk about those! Jonathan Toews won the Selke, the terrible goaltending tandem of Corey Crawford and Ray Emery won the Jennings, none of the other Chicago Blackhawks won anything — whatever.
  • Swardy BangBang is our favorite commenter on this podcast, and she is an awesome cartoonist in real life. Her comic on the NHL lockout is called Chelsea Chelsea (What A Cluster-Puck), and you can buy it here! It’s $5 total if you live in the US, so get on that.
  • The first five games of the Stanley Cup Final (not Finals!) against the Boston Bruins
  • CORSI is a fun fancystat you should learn.
  • Brandon Bollig should never be in an OT game in the SCF ever again.
  • Jonathan Toews and Patrice Bergeron were both injured in Game 5, but will be playing in Game 6? Okay!
  • Other things that happened across the NHL, including Alain Vigneault and John Tortorella trading jobs and the Colorado Avalanche being idiots about not taking Seth Jones, maybe.
  • The Line Cocktail this week is pretty spectacular.
  • We have no question for this week, because fuck questions — the season is almost over!
  • Go support Casey’s hockey team, the Chicago Snow Hawks, by going out to Bar Forza for a Game 6 Watch Party! I won’t be there because me going out to a bar for a Blackhawks game is apparently bad luck — but Casey will be there, along with other awesome people. The address is 2476 N Lincoln Ave., Chicago, IL 60614. Go stop by and tell Casey I sent you!
  • Follow us on Twitter! I’m at @RunsOnDuncan, and Casey is at @Raedances.
  • And now, the videos we mentioned in the podcast:
